The lunch box project
Monday October 16, 2006
When the Missus asked me to get involved with my son’s lunch box I thought she was being nasty about my Welsh heritage. As it turns out it was, actually, about the difficulty of the 5 days a week we have to try and provide interest, variety and healthiness to the lunchtime of a child aged 5+. Yup the British school system sucks so much that our school can’t even offer the kids lunch.
Anyone who has a child aged 5+ will know how tough that is but today I took my first steps.
Step one, he likes sandwiches but I don’t want him to eat too much bread; so I decided to provide a big amount of variety but still to include a really nice sandwich on brown bread. Step two, we make the lunch box the night before, not 10 minutes before school starts… those bits are done, we’ll see how it works out tommorow!
Meanwhile, I’d love to see parents with the same “problem” join up to the Flickr group linked below [1] and take part!
