EyeTV and Freesat
Tuesday October 10, 2006
So I had taken great pains to convince the Missus that a Mac Mini with accompanying EyeTV would make the perfect base (note I said base, leaving myself open to many many additions :D) for a multimedia center; plus it would give her a computer for email and instant messaging in the living room, which is kind of essential for a working mum with 3 kids on the go (that task currently being taken on by a just too big 17” PowerBook sat on the dinning room table we have in one half of the living room).
We can’t get Freeview here and it’s not planned until around 2011 so I looked around and found Freesat from Sky which looked good and a few people told me it is just dandy.
Then I emailed Elgato to see what the score was with Freesat and EyeTV and they said:
I am sorry but the EyeTV 310 does not work with SKY because SKY is using a special encryption for the TV signal which is only supported by their own receivers.
Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck… damn that Rupert Murdoch.
