Swindon, that's where it's at
Tuesday March 21, 2006
About 3 weeks ago I sent an invoice to a client and he kindly posted a cheque, which arrived today. The cheque was issued from a branch of his bank in Swindon. I will, in my lunch hour, take a 15 mile drive to deposit the cheque into my current account because I have run out of printer ink so can’t do the online form, rush to the post office and hope (and I do mean hope) it gets there tomorrow thing. The cheque will then be posted back to the head office of my bank which is in, yup you guessed it, Swindon, where it will sit for anything up to 5 days whilst it clears. I don’t know why it takes 5 days but that seems to be the case. Once this is done I can log in to my bank account and draw some previously cleared funds, safe in the knowledge that nothing will bounce and I won’t get charged £20 for the privilege. The reason I need to draw some funds from my account is to put petrol in the car so that I can travel to a meeting (with a different client) in, yus you guessed it, Swindon.
I therefore conclude that Swindon must be the center of the universe and wonder if I go an live there will getting my mitts on a mere £200 be a quicker process as a result?
