Fat boy slim

Tuesday January 31, 2006

Getting to watch myself on camera was quite a shock, my instant reaction was FUCK I AM FAT… but still damn good looking.. ahem!

So yeah, I have resolved to give up being fat, starting… well before Christmas actually.

I don’t do diets though. I firmly believes diets are a bit like going on holiday, you have a great time for a few weeks, feel good, start looking better then it’s all over and you go back to your old shoddy fat boy ways. No, it’s lifestyle change that is required and it’s quite simple too: stop eating so much, drinking so much and do some regular exercise. What could be easier!

    Here, here.

Successfully losing weight (and keeping it off) by dieting alone means a big permanent change in what you eat, and I don’t know about you but I don’t really want to change my lifestyle that much. I enjoy tasty food. It’s nice.

You can successfully slim however by doing more and eating less (IMHO). More exercise and less food. Don’t stop eating the things you like, just shrink your portions to a less American scale.

It’s also important to find a type of exercise that you enjoy. I’ve tried getting into running but I find it boring. After a while it becomes a chore. However, I can cycle all day and not get bored. I commute to work on the bike and actually enjoy it every day. Also, football and swimming. But that’s my personal preference. You might prefer to spin a hula-hoop or go line dancing.

It’s every cooking able persons prerogative to gain weight.

Although not too healty in the long run, I have the same problem. I was thinking of getting in the exercise bicycle at least three mornings every week. Let’s see how long that promise will last.

Hey now, not all Americans are fat. I mean, just look at our popular Hollywood women, always going on some sort of diet.

Got the same problem, and started a lifestyle revolution 6 months ago.

6 hours of sport per week, better understanding of what you should or shouldn’t eat depending on the time of the day and your goal.

I lost 14 kilos, moved from 34’’ jeans to 30’’ and feel quite better now.

But man, it’s like a drug, as for web standards, once you’ve gone on the right path, it’s pretty hard to believe you’ve fooled yourself for so long.

I know the feeling! I work from home as a web designer in Oxford and found it increasing difficult to get away from the office for exercise in between work, the misses and the folk band!

Luckily my cousin works for Sony and told me about Kinetic (www.eyetoykinetic.com). The best 35 notes I’ve ever spent! I can jump around like a lunatic hitting and kicking imaginary spheres until I’m sweating cobs all over the office floor! All you need is a PS2 and some space and it’ll do a 12 week training routine with you, complete with annoying personal trainers that patronise you along the way! Its fun, easy to do at home and keeps you interested – everything normal exercise isn’t!

Don’t do any of that exercise bike, treadmill crap. Get outside and go for a walk, ride a bike (my personal favourite), or even a run. Getting fresh is much more invigorating and enjoyable than being stuck in some building (be it a gym or your home).

Well you know what they say about skinny chefs…

Anyway, I echo Adam Hopkinson’s thoughts – take a walk around that field of yours.

And also: don’t snack (drink water instead – fizzy water fills you up even better – easier said then done though). The easiest thing is to eat a bit less of everything. Instead of 4oz of pasta, have 3oz and so on. In terms of eating you won’t notice the difference – I know I tried.

Bah it’s all preachy bollocks. Just do the walk thing or go for a cycle with Josh.
