Some time ago, Friends of Ed went in search of a fine British Textpattern mind to contribute a chapter to a book. Unfortunately, all of those fine minds were busy. Every last resource exhausted, they finally asked me if I was free. If only they knew then what they had let themselves in for.
The first thing I have learnt about writing for real, have a good editor. I have been extremely lucky in that department, I am sure my editor has wanted to kick my ass on more than one occasion but has acted like a real gentleman nevertheless. At a guess I would have thought he’d probably have found it easier to draw blood out of a stone than it has been to extract this chapter from my head. Extract it he has, though, and I am feeling quite excited about it now.
The second thing I have learnt is don’t try and write about Textpattern whilst it is undergoing a major update, well 3 to be precise in the time I was working on the words.
The third thing I have learnt is that when your Windows PC dies on you in the middle of taking screen shots and you make the move to OS X you have to start again, which is a real turd!
The fourth thing I have learnt is if you are as inept as I am on the illustration front, get someone else to do it! So, as is usual, I decided to trade on the talents of others and for my chapter I managed to persuade Kev Adamson to do me a little something (teaser below). Thanks Kev! :)

Finally, for now anyway, I have learnt that this book will be available soon at a shop near you and one look at the names of my co-authors and you know it’s gonna be good!
