Thought for the day

Thursday November 10, 2005

That’s it, no more XHTML for me. It’s a waste of time. All my sites from here on will use HTML 4.01. So there!

As long as its a Strict DTD it apparently doesn’t matter… sounds like you had a bad day though…

In that case, in future projects, you might want to think about using some of these as well ;-)

HTML 4.01, XHTML, whatever. What’s the specific complaint about XHTML anyway?

But for the web’s sake don’t use any of those horrible applets Gavin suggested! From what I can see those “Lake Applets” (which I assume are supposed to be shimmering water) are just static images with hellish mangled lower portions which MOVE!

    A quote from the site:

The Lake Applet is by far the most used on Internet sites. I have made this site in order to give those of you who might be thinking of adding a Lake Applet to your site a bit of help if you need it.

What sites are using these applets? Because I’d like to see them. Actually, probably not…

Heheh – Hickson was saying this years ago. Isn’t it great how fashions come and go?

    What’s your beef with XHTML?

Do what you like, I’m all for that. I am curious about the reason.

I’ve always wondered at what the advantage is of using xhtml served as html on a standard site that makes no use of xslt or any other xml-like stuff. In my recent projects i have gone back to an html doctype too, but i can’t say it’s out of a very thought-out, rational reason.

Well IIIIIII’m writing all my pages in XML with tag names named after 700 hobos, with an XSLT that translates them into HTML 2.0 tables. So there!

Nice one John. I converted back to HTML a while back, after being cool with the X, I decided to be realistic and go “old-school” again. I mean, pah, who uses that old relic which is HTML nowadays?

I, like many here who have posted, would like your reasoning about the sudden willingness to be so uncool. Maybe because IE7 isn’t supporting XHTML, so it’s going to be another four years until we might be able to use it?
