SiteVista

Tuesday June 28, 2005

Now here is an interesting looking site. I have only managed a quick play with SiteVista this morning but, although it is still in a pre-launch stage, it's looking very good indeed. A really nice interface to work with and although at the moment it is primarily screen captures across a range of PC browsers the features list looks very impressive. I am particularly looking forward to seeing the accessibility tests, those being: color blindness tests and screen reader tests which are amongst a host of cracking features on the coming soon list when you log-in.

They are also offering to fix your problems and although I think they must be mad to take on board other peoples code, it's a great idea and I am sure it will see plenty of business from web designers tired of banging their heads over Internet Explorer 5.

Oh, and did I mention it was invented by a Brit? Well, no real surprise there then, we come up with all the good ideas!

If you look at that latest blog entry you linked, the fee will probably be only around $89. That’s not bad at all, but I do hope they know what they’re getting themselves into. I mean, I know what my own code ends up like sometimes. I’d like to think mine has improved a ton, but imagine if I had given them one of my first pages using CSS. HAHA! 89 dollars would have been a heck of a deal for them to fix it!

Well, yeah. All offered services are already freely available, as listed in UITest.com’s Analysis and Miscellaneous sections, for example… and if you knew Site Check, you’d already use a certain super weapon ;)

First of all, thanks to John for the review.

Ray: Yes, you’re right, they could turn out to be pretty big jobs :-) We’re trying to find ways of giving some kind of caveat so we don’t get roped into hours and hours of work – something like re-quoting for the work if it looks like a big job, but doing that upfront before we begin.

Jens: That UITest is a great site, some really useful stuff there. You’re right, a lot of features are available elsewhere, but I wouldn’t say for free. Things like screen reader audio, loading speed videos and so forth. Also browser testing on the various free sites can be quite slow and unreliable. But it’s obviously down to each person’s preference. If it’s a student or open source site then paying for SiteVista perhaps isn’t worthwhile, but on client work when time and reliability are key factors, something like SiteVista is, I think, worth investing in.

I was thinking about this the other day. We really do come up with the best ideas.

Ah, it’s a good looking site with some handy features being released. I agree John – this is certainly a site to keep an eye on and I think it will help some web designers a great deal.

Brits having the best ideas?......(well, yeah, we do!)

Now…I’m off to get some Kiwi fruit!

I signed up about a week ago, but I am afeard that being an amateur, I was not allowed into the par-tay. That being said, it really does sound like a good idea. The accesibility part is the biggest winner; who has time to wade through all that stuff anyway?

    > there then, we come up with all the good ideas!

    Wait a second. Bovril? ;)

Hmm I like the idea, a bit pricey but I’m sure as clients increase the prices will drop. Great idea though!

It’s a great and fresh looking new site with some help for lazy or tired folks! Knowing the problems between diffrent browsers, I would like to know if there is a browser or a tool to simulate the diffrent browser! Just to see and checkout if there is a buck in my code or not, without installing an old browser on my machine?
