Transferring money abroad

Wednesday November 8, 2006

I have had some fun in the last few months with money sent to me not arriving in my account and money sent to someone else from my account not arriving.

What I have learned is that in these situations banks and building societies go into big fucking kid mode (well mine do anyway); which basically involves them getting a bit moody and stamping their feet and blaming the other kid. “It wasn’t our fault, it was their fault”.

So, says I, “have you asked them WHY the money didn’t make it to the destination I paid you £20 to ensure it arrived at”

More foot stamping and sulking… “It’s… not… our… fault..” stamp stamp stamp “We’ll go and talk to the other kid, we’ll call you back before 5pm today”.

a day passes by…

“Yes, you were supposed to be calling me back, remember?”

“Were we? How much money was it again? Really? Oh, errr, yes we’ll call you back.”

“You said that last time, give me your name!”

“No really, we’ll call you back… err gotta go, bye.”

Ring ring… “Yes, we called the other kid, he doesn’t know why, there was another kid involved and it was his fault”

“Did you ask him why?”

“Err, no but we can do if you like?”

“You know what, I already got in touch with the father of the other kid and he told me why it failed. But don’t you find it a bit worrying that I could get that information faster than you could?”

“Well, it wasn’t our fault… it was their fault!”

“But you are still happy to keep my £20 I have no doubt… and I am sure you don’t care that I am now a total of £70 out of pocket?”

”.... So you know the reason… well that’s fine then… told you it was their fault.”

“Well, not entirely because you advised me… oh fuck it…”

So FUCK YOU VERY MUCH banks and building societies of the world, that’s £70 I won’t be spending on my kids, I hope you choke you mother fuckers!

Leaf blower

Wednesday November 8, 2006

It has been worrying me for days, the fact that last weekend I spent £200 on a petrol driven leaf blower.

It’s not right, I tell you, for a 33 year old man to get such great pleasure from such a device… and I haven’t even tried the suck action yet!... errr… where was I… oh yes, blowing… leaf blowing; it’s damn therapeutic!

To understand why I would pay this amount or cash for such a thing you need to understand where my house is located, or rather what it is located under. Thankfully Google Maps has a great shot of the house, in the summer, when all the leaves are attached to the trees. Obviously I can’t provide a link to the map; leaf blowing is not a spectator sport, so I have taken a little slice below for you to see (I hope you don’t mind Google).

I think it would be a treat to take a blower to somewhere like London; hours of fun wandering the street blowing people… oh wait that doesn’t sound right does it!?

How can you not love something with this catchy strap line:

For performance that’ll blow you away…latch on to a versatile STIHL blower.

A charitable calendar that actually looks worth having

Thursday November 2, 2006

Those dapper chaps at travellerspoint.com have taken 12 of the finest photos (and they are fine photos) uploaded to their site and turned them into a calendar.

Unlike other calendars, though, the photos can be removed and turned into postcards; double value!

Also, all the profits go to a really great sounding charity that is working to bring wi-fi to developing communities. I am not usually a very charitable soul but this one in particular appeals to me, probably because I can relate, heavily, to how much the internet can change your life in positive ways.

I am going to be buying a few of these as stocking fillers and gifts for friends and one for the Missus too, who loved the pictures at first glance. I might even grab a few for some of my clients…

So go to it, be charitable and get something really nice in return!
